Launch Details

Recap

2022 was an amazing year for SmartGym. It became Apple’s Editor’s Choice in the US and Brazil. It reached #3 most downloaded Health and Fitness app in the US, and #2 in Brazil, was featured as App of the Day, was featured by Apple on apple.com as one of the main apps for Dynamic Island and Always On Display, got featured at WWDC as example of good design (SharePlay session), got an amazing story with 5 tips from Apple on the App Store, and a lot more.

We launched lots of amazing new features, like full support for Dynamic Island, Live Activities, Lock Screen Widgets, Swift Charts, Stage Manager, Apple Watch Ultra and a lot more.

New Update

As we always say, we never settle at SmartGym. We are constantly making it better. And this is a huge update! All new SmartGym with awesome new features and even better experiences.

70+ New Exercises

SmartGym currently has a database with over 620 exercises, with detailed animations and instructions. We're adding 74 new exercises, lots of new equipment, taking the total to almost 700 exercises! It's one of the largest exercise's databases in the App Store!

Routine Progress

In January we launched the Monthly Summary feature. Here's what we said:

"This is one of the coolest feature we’ve ever done. It’s gorgeous, super motivating and yet so simple! […] A super cool feature that shows really awesome stats about the user’s progress during a specific month."

Routine Progress is similar to Monthly Summary but focused on a specific routine, for any period of time (not only the current month). It shows you the most relevant information about every workout you've done with this specific routine. It's extremely powerful and gives users amazing insights into their progress.

Apple Watch

SmartGym is probably one of *the most* powerful apps on the Apple Watch. We really push the Watch to its limit. We wrote more about this here.

SmartGym for the Apple Watch is *so* powerful, that we’ve been hearing the following a lot from our users: “Your Apple Watch app is so good, that I never open the iPhone app anymore.”.

And this got us thinking a lot. If many users don’t even open the iPhone app anymore, there a few features they are probably missing. And we are addressing this now.

Routine Progress

Yes! The Apple Watch app will also get the amazing new Routine Progress feature we're introducing in this release. And it’s simply insane!! With the power of SwiftUI and Swift Charts, it’s now possible to have amazing screens like these on the Apple Watch.

Monthly Summary

We introduced Monthly Summary in the beginning of the year, and our users loved it! It’s a gorgeous screen, where users can quickly get the most important information about their workouts. We’re now bringing this to the Apple Watch! The screens are similar to the screens above, but for all routines, focused on a specific month.

Delete History

Wrongly logged an exercise? That's fine. Just swipe it to delete.

Change Set’s Types

Although users could always edit their sets from the Apple Watch, changing their reps and weight, adding new ones, or even removing some, until today, it was not possible to change the type of a set.

We're fixing this now. Is this set a Warm Up set? Or a Drop Set? Or just a regular set? Doesn't matter. Users can change this now, right from their wrist.

Redesigned Timer Screen

SmartGym's timer screen is one of the most important screens inside the app. As we wrote here, this screen is super smart. SmartGym is constantly doing some clever math in the background to always predict what is the next step and have a dynamic button appear when needed. This becomes even nicer with the Apple Watch Ultra, where the Action Button executes that dynamic action as well.

We're now improving this screen a lot. Since most users spend a lot of time on this screen while resting, we added a few shortcuts to make it even easier to do what they need, while you rest.

Users can now quickly see the animation and read the instructions to check if they are doing this exercise with proper from, change the number of reps or weight, and check which exercise is next, so they can start preparing for it. Just scroll down the screen to access all this. This is super handy and will speed up the entire experience.

First on the left: regular timer screen. The second and third still the same screen, but after you scroll down. The last two are different screens after tapping one of the options.

All New History System

One of the most important features of any health and fitness apps, is visualizing all your data and progress in details. With this in mind, we’ve done a lot of changes to our history system and we're taking it to a whole new level.

Redesigned History Tab

The first big change is an all new UI. The history tab now looks way more modern, showing a lot more information at a glance.

History's Notes

This has been requested a lot. Although we allow users to add notes to their routines and exercises, they also wanted to add notes to a specific history. How hard was that workout overall? Is there anything I need to change on my next workout?

And that's what we're doing. Now it's super easy to have all that safely stored and organized on SmartGym.

Edit Past History

SmartGym has always allowed users to edit their past histories, as long as the change was done on the same day of the workout. We don't have that limitation anymore. Users can edit any past history they want. Forgot to log a specific set? Did a different weight than it was originally logged? No problem.

Workout Around Midnight

SmartGym has always saved everything by date. Just like many other health and fitness apps, like Apple's own apps. Every exercise logged would be logged on the day it was done. And this makes total sense.

But there is one limitation. What about those that like to work out around midnight? Meaning, they will start a workout at 11:30 PM for example, and end at 12:30 AM. This would result in half of the exercises being saved in one day, and the other half being saved on the next day. When looking at their history, this workout would be split into two separate days. Which was not good.

So, we're improving this. SmartGym will now save any exercise for a specific workout, on the day the workout starts. This way, it will always look beautiful in your device. :)

Redesigned Exercise's List

As we said in the beginning of this post, SmartGym currently has one of the largest exercise's databases in the App Store. But this also means that there are *a lot* of exercises to choose from and to scroll by. So we're improving this as well.

We now offer a way smarter search, where different words will be used in different ways when searching your exercise's list, improving your chances of finding the exercise you're looking for.

But we also redesigned this screen to give the user the option to filter down the entire list to specific muscle groups.

Equipment Sync Across Devices

One of SmartGym's best features is to select which equipment you have available and get every workout custom tailored for that. Until now, your iPhone and Apple Watch would always be in sync. But what about other devices like a Mac or iPad?

Well, now, every device will be automatically synced. Just change the equipment selection in one device, and every other will get updated instantly.

And Much More

There are so many other small improvements and enhancements that we can't wait for our users to start using this new SmartGym.
